Black-headed bushmaster (Lachesis melanocephala) is a venomous pitviper species found in Costa Rica. No subspecies are currently recognized. The top of the head is uniform black in color, to which the specific name, melanocephala, refers. Order: Squamata, Suborder: Serpentes, Family: Viperidae, Subfamily: Crotalinae, Synonyms: Lachesis muta melanocephala.
