The crowned eagle is the only extant member of the genus Stephanoaetus. A second species, the Malagasy crowned eagle (Stephanoaetus mahery) became extinct after humans settled on Madagascar. Order: Accipitriformes, Family: Accipitridae, Genus: Stephanoaetus, Species: Stephanoaetus coronatus (Linnaeus, 1766).
