| Description | Cape cobra (Naja nivea)
The Cape cobra of southern Africa measures 47-59 in. in length. It is an agile climber, gliding swiftly through the foliage of low trees in search of small reptiles and mammals. It often raids the nests of social weavers for nestlings, and sometimes enters domestic gardens — and even houses — to hunt for rats and mice. The Cape cobra is a highly venomous species, and is responsible for most of the snakebites that kill people in South Africa's Cape Province. | |
