Chilean flamingos are found as high as 13,000 ft. up in the Andes mountain chain of South America. They and rarer species, especially the Caribbean flamingo, which breeds at only a few selected sites around the Gulf of Mexico, continue to be threatened by hunters collecting large numbers for zoos.
