The malleefowl or mallee-fowl (Leipoa ocellata) is a stocky ground-dwelling bird of family Megapodiidae. The mallee-fowl is notable for the large nesting mounds constructed by the males and lack of parental care after the chicks hatch. Malleefowl are shy, solitary, camouflaged birds native to Australia.
