악어물떼새 [鰐魚-, Egyptian plover] 요약 황새목 제비물떼새과의 조류. 학명 Pluvianus aegyptius 분류 황새목 제비물떼새과 생활방식 악어와 공생 크기 몸길이 약 22cm 색 검정색(윗면), 연한 갈색(아랫면) 생식 난생(1회에 2~3개) 서식장소 강가 분포지역 아프리카 북부 본문 몸길이 약 22cm이다. 머리꼭대기와 등·눈선은 검정색이고 눈썹선은 흰색이다. 아랫면은 연한 갈색이고 가슴에는 검은 띠가 있으며 날개는 잿빛이 도는 파란색이다. 주로 강가에 살면서 세 발가락으로 땅 위를 빨리 달린다. 땅 위 오목한 곳에 한배에 2∼3개의 알을 낳은 뒤 모래로 알을 덮고 품는 습성이 있다. 악어가 물가에서 쉬면서 입을 벌리고 있을 때 그 속에 들어가 이빨 사이의 고기조각이나 찌꺼기를 꺼내 먹는다는 말이 있으나 실제로 그런 장면을 본 사람은 없다. 그러나 이 새와 아프리카발톱깃물떼새(Vanellus spinosus)가 악어 등에 붙어 있는 기생충을 잡아먹거나 악어 입 속으로 들락거리는 일은 있다. 글: 네이버백과사전 http://100.naver.com
