Gannets Atlantic Gannets photographed on the island of Grassholm (Pembrokeshire,
South Wales). This is one of nature's great crowd scenes. The sight of
50000 Gannets packed on to a small island is amazing - as you approach
the island it looks as if it is covered in snow! The noise is considerable
and the fishy smell is quite unforgettable.
The Gannets at the cliff edge in the foreground are the immature and
unpaired birds, known as 'The Club'. The breeding pairs and their dark
plumaged chicks are in the centre of the colony.
